Projects Previously Supported
Over the last 4 years the Swimarathon has raised over
£18,000 which has resulted in £10,000
being donated to the South East Lions Air Ambulance Night
Flying Appeal plus equipping the “Soft Play Area"
and part of "The Sensory Room”, at The Horsham
Springboard Project Centre as well as purchasing 4
portable defibrillators for our local Secondary Schools
and The QE II School for children with disabilities. |
|
How Does It Work?
Teams of up to six swim lengths of the pool for 55
minutes, trying to swim as many lengths as possible as a team. Teams
obtain sponsorship from family, friends and other supporters. The
income from sponsors is split 50:50 between Horsham Lions Club (for
the nominated projects) and any other good cause that the team may
wish to support. Teams can, of course, donate their half to the
Horsham Lions Club nominated projects. |

2016 Projects
In 2016 we are supporting two Horsham based charities,
they are; Hop, Skip and Jump and The Butterfly
Project who respectively support children and young adults
with a variety of physical and learning difficulties. Horsham Lions
Club will donate it's share of the funds raised, including tax recovered
through Gift Aid, to these projects. Please remind sponsors who
pay tax, that their sponsorship is worth 25% more if they complete
the required details on the sponsorship form. |

Hop Skip and Jump, opened its Centre’s doors
in Swan Walk in mid-2015. It provides care for anyone with special
needs for up to 2 hours, through its soft play, sensory room and
wet room areas. Professionally trained staff provide fun activities,
thus allowing parents or carers some free time. In order to expand
the types of activities, Hop Skip and Jump are looking to purchase
a variety of equipment: total cost £3,150. |
|
The Butterfly Project, has its own shop and workshops
at 31 Springfield Road, Horsham. It provides young adults, with
both learning and physical disabilities, with opportunities to work
by undertaking local paper rounds, woodwork and metal work, cooking,
gardening, watering plants at local stations, DJ skills and music
technology. In addition, the young adults are taught to reach the
location of these jobs by using local transport. The Butterfly Project
is in need of wheelchairs for use by these young people as well
as other equipment. |

Taking Part
Taking part is very easy; there is no entry
fee. You will need a team of up to six swimmers plus an
adult non-swimming team captain. All ages can take part, from 8
to 70 inclusive. The first member of a team swims one length of
the pool and then relaxes while the other members of the team each
swim a length of 25 metres in turn. The first swimmer then swims
again and so on for 55 minutes. There could be up to eight teams
swimming each hour. The first teams start swimming at 1pm, with
other teams starting on the hour until 4pm when the last teams will
start their swim. Why not ask your friends and colleagues to have
a go? It’s great fun and good healthy exercise!
All swimmers will be presented with a medal. If your
team wishes to swim at a particular time then please send the entry
form in as quickly as possible: its first come, first served! |
